Thursday Evening - Welcome to Lynchburg!

Start your weekend with a well-earned drink and a view. Enjoy sunset cocktails and small plates at the Skyline Grill atop The Virginian Hotel, where city lights and mountain views set the tone for a memorable celebration.

Local Brews Downtown

If you prefer something more laid-back, head to Starr Hill on Main or Three Roads Brewing for local craft beers brewed right here in the Hill City. Both taprooms offer a relaxed vibe and plenty of seating for family catch-ups.

Friday – Brunch, Trails & Downtown Discoveries

After a restful night at one of our many hotels or B&Bs, fuel up at My Dog Duke’s Diner with The Lynchburg breakfast platter or swing by Market at Main for their famous sweet potato pancakes.

Walk It Off Along the James River Heritage Trail

Stretch your legs and soak in the scenery along the James River Heritage Trail, a 9.5-mile path connecting downtown Lynchburg to the Blue Ridge foothills. Don’t miss the Percival’s Island Overlook Bridge — a perfect family photo stop. Rent bikes at Bikes Unlimited if you want to make a full morning of it.

While you’re near downtown, explore local shops and boutiques like Lexie & Lee, Firebrick Pottery, and Empire Fleet Vintage. You’ll find great gifts, home décor, and handmade art to commemorate your graduate’s big day.

Traveling with little ones? Head to Amazement Square, an award-winning hands-on children’s museum, or visit Hill City AquaZoo for a fun indoor adventure.

Saturday – Graduation Day

Morning at the Market

Before the ceremony, stop by the historic Lynchburg Community Market for a quick breakfast from Father’s Café & Bakery and locally roasted coffee from Grains of Sense. The market, one of the oldest in the nation, is a great place to experience the heart of Lynchburg.

Post-Ceremony Lunch

After the cap toss, celebrate with lunch at Iron & Ale, known for its lobster mac & cheese and gourmet burgers, or grab a table at The Water Dog for oysters and Po’boys overlooking Riverfront Park.

Scenic Send-Offs & Photo Stops

Wrap up the day with one last view of LYH:

  • Take in the Blue Ridge Mountains from Riverside Park’s stone overlook.
  • Snap your photo at the LOVE sign on Percival’s Island — a must for any visit to Virginia!

Need an afternoon pick-me-up? Stop into one of our local coffee shops for a latte before heading back to campus.

After helping your grad move out, grab a casual bite from Jo Jo’s Pizza or Blaze Pizza for the road. Say goodbye (for now) to LYH — we’ll be here cheering you on for all the adventures still to come.
