Downtown Fireworks
Where to watch: Riverfront Park, Lower Bluffwalk, Depot Grove, Midtown Parking Deck

What better way to celebrate Independence Day than viewing fireworks from one of the many downtown public parks or outdoor restaurants. Grab dinner downtown beforehand or get your food to-go and get comfortable for a show that will light up the night!
Movies in the Park
Place: Riverfront Park

Admission: Free
Bring your family, friends, a blanket, or a chair for Movies in the Park at Riverfront Park hosted by The Water Dog and Nomad Coffee.
One Family Soul Food & Funk Festival
Place: Riverfront Park
Date: July 17, 2:00 P.M.- 10:00 P.M.
Admission: $30
Presented by The Mix 88.9, the Soul Food & Funk Festival is a community event featuring home-cooked soul food vendors and musical acts like Rakim, Junkyard Band, and Black Diamond Band.
Virginia Common Wealth Games
Place: Liberty University Campus (multiple locations)
Dates: July 23-25
Admission: Spectator fees vary
This annual multi-sport festival hosts thousands of athletes from around the Commonwealth of Virginia of all ages and skill levels participating in over 55 different Olympic and Pan American sports
In the Light of Led Zeppelin
Place: Historic Academy Theatre
Date: August 5, 7:30 P.M.
Admission: $24-40
A unique musical experience inspired by the musical evolution of both Jimmy Page & Robert Plant, In The Light of Led Zeppelin is bringing audiences a new musical and visual interpretation of the Led Zeppelin Experience the same way Page and Plant presented it in 1994 through 1998.
Trace Adkins
Place: Historic Academy Theatre

Annual Riverfront Chalk Festival and Art Competition
Place: Amazement Square
Date: August 21, 10:00 A.M – 2:00 P.M.
Admission: $5-$20
Come enjoy live music, food trucks, and activities while soaking up the last moments of summer at Amazement Square’s Annual Riverfront Chalk Festival & Art Contest! Artists of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities are invited to register for the chalk art contest and compete for coveted prizes. Amazement Square will also open its doors for just $5 per person.
Lynchburg Hillcats Baseball Games
Place: Bank of the James Stadium
Dates: Season runs May-September
Take me out to the ballgame! Catching a game with the Lynchburg Hillcats minor league baseball team is the best way to celebrate summer…hotdogs in tow!

Hill City Pride Festival

This event is held to celebrate the vast diversity and accomplishments of the LGBTQ+ community in LYH!

Join the LOCKN’ festival for a series of weekend concerts in August ranging from Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Dr. Dog, and The Marcus King Band.
