Head over to Hexham Road in Wyndhurst to find Beer88. They offer a selection of 88 ice cold bottled beers (local and imported) and 6 rotating taps to choose from. Not only that, but they are also the home of the most creative, mouthwatering burgers in town! You have to try the Macattack burger with fries and signature sauce. You won’t regret it!
Craft Beer Cellar
This shop may look small from the outside, but inside you will find a selection so extensive that you will not know where to start! Craft Beer Cellar, located on Wards Road, is passionate about bringing you the best that beer has to offer. They have a wide assortment of international and national beers to choose from, as well as options for those who are gluten sensitive! And for the home brewer, this is where you can purchase your grains, yeast, hops—you name it! This is a great place to pick up assorted 6-packs and then hit the road.
Three Roads Brewing Company
Lynchburg’s newest taproom and brewery opened summer of 2020, Three Road Brewing is housed in a former Ford dealership. The taproom features their signature, relaxed Three Roads style, complete with indoor and outdoor seating, and, of course, GREAT BEER, local art, fast and free wi-fi, regular live music events, games & snacks available! They also feature non-alcoholic craft sodas made to order!
Starr Hill on Main
As the second oldest craft brewery in Virginia, Starr Hill has led the way as a pioneer in the industry, helping to lay the groundwork for the growing craft beer community in the region. Starr Hill now brews 28,000 barrels of beer each year and its growing selection of beers can be found across the Southeast. You can find them on Main Street in Downtown Lynchburg ready to serve you five types of beer blends including stouts, wheat, fruit beers, and more. Plus, $1 of every pint of The Love sold, the taproom will donate proceeds to a selected charity of the month!
The Water Dog
Located on Jefferson Street of Downtown Lynchburg, The Water Dog is a great place to get a taste of local craft beers. They have 36 draft beers that they strive to keep as local as possible. This is also a great place to grab a bite to eat. You could try fried or baked oysters, parmesan-crusted pretzel bites or maybe even the River Dog (served with beer cheese…so that counts on a beer crawl, right?).
Enjoy a pint while relaxing in their beer garden watching the game.
Gilded is a great place to hit up after you’ve filled your bellies and want to shop around for some more brews and home goodies. Browse around to make your own 6-pack, and check out their assortment of funny greeting cards, gift-wraps, coffee mugs and more. You’ll even find some local Lynchburg treats!
Head down Rivermont Avenue and check out this hole in the wall that locals love. Rivermont Pizza is a great place to unwind, sip on a beer and eat some of the greatest spinach artichoke dip you will ever find. Order one of their 12 inch wood fired pizzas and split it with a friend (or keep it all for yourself). They always have a choice beer selection on the menu, so everyone will be able to find something they love.
If you’re already in Rivermont Pizza, then you can find this beer shop in their back room. It carries all of your favorite craft beers. If you really loved the beer you had with your meal, chances are it’s waiting for you at Ned’s. You can create your own six pack here or just grab one that you want to save for a rainy day.
If you’re looking for a chill atmosphere with a wide-open beer garden to play jumbo Jenga in, then Apocalypse Ale Works is where you should go. Head into the tasting room to try their Cenful Blonde Belgian Ale, the Holy Pucker Gose or any other of their creatively titled and well-crafted brews they have to offer. As a bonus: You can bring your dog! Located on Burnbridge Road in Forest.
Follow this guide and you’ll be sure to have a great time. Be sure to drink plenty of water along the way and be safe.
