  • Storming of Thunder Ridge – The John Bell Memorial TRAINING RIDES »

Beacon Credit Union, Centra, the City of Lynchburg, and the YMCA invite YOU to join your friends and fellow cyclists in the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains of Central Virginia on Sunday, May 19th for the 15th annual Storming of Thunder Ridge road ride. This well-supported cycling event offers camaraderie and challenge for every rider’s ability with a choice of 27, 45, 48, 75 and 100 mile routes as you ride at your own pace along safe and scenic well-marked country roads. Both the 27 & 45-mile routes follow a course of rolling hills and meandering back roads. For the 5th year, The Mountain LOOP route (48 miles) – riders drive to Big Island and start and finish there – riding an amazing 48-mile loop that tackles Thunder Ridge and Curtis (please note all the post-ride activities are at the Jamerson YMCA). The longer 75 & 100 mile routes test rider stamina with a 13-mile ascent to Apple Orchard Mountain, the highest peak of the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. For an epic day in the saddle, the 100-mile route boasts over 9000 feet of climbing. Your registration helps fund the Community Support Campaign of the YMCA of Central Virginia. Included are cue sheets, fully stocked rest stops, SAG support and monitoring of riders along the course. At the finish, every rider has access to the Y’s showers, hot tub, the family pool, and an awesome PIZZA and garden salad party to celebrate with your friends.

Indoor and Outdoor Camping is available on Saturday night, May 18th (Sunday night outdoor camping too)
