Fifth Street Cultural History Tour

FreeFifth Street between Federal and Taylor Streets was the commercial center of Lynchburg’s African American community during the Jim Crow era. It was also the heart of Black cultural life, from Fifth Street Baptist Church to the Harrison Theater to Odd Fellows Hall. This tour explores the highlights of Fifth Street’s cultural history in a casual, 60-minute guided walking tour from Monroe Street to the roundabout.
Tours are free, but reservations are required in advance. Call (434) 455–6226 or visit LynchburgMuseum.org/walking-tours to reserve your spot. Each tour is limited to 20 people. Tour includes walking on streets and sidewalks, so please wear comfortable walking shoes.
