Boat Building for Teens

Your teen will learn the basics of wood working, build relationships, build confidence, work with talented and enthusiastic mentors and build a boat to take home.

Overview & Curriculum
This project is an opportunity for teens to learn beginner and intermediate woodworking techniques. Participants will begin by learning to read and interpret detailed plans, basic boat building techniques, and tool safety training. Throughout the course of the week, students will learn more advanced techniques and use both hand and power tools to build their own canoe, then finish it off with a custom paint job.

On the final day of the project, students will set sail in Clemmons Lake at Ivy Creek Park.

Start date: Monday, July 24
End date: Friday, July 28
Time: 9:00am – 3:00pm

Eligibility
This project is for students ages 14 to 19 (rising 9th through 12th grades). The registration fee is $300. Students will keep their canoe at the end of the project.
