Inspiration for the musical Miss Saigon, this is one of the most popular operas ever written. For a young American sailor on assignment in Nagasaki, Japan, it was just a passing, exotic love affair. But the young local girl fell deeply in love. For her, it was a lifetime commitment, a real marriage. It was also a ticket to a new life, offering an escape from the rigid society which had shamed her father and impoverished her family. Then he leaves. Against all logic, Madame Butterfly waits for his return, sure that he will take her away to a new life in America. For three years, she refuses all help and turns away all her wealthy and ardent suitors.

Then the sailor boy returns, but he is not alone. Join us to find out the news that he has brought, and to learn Madame Butterfly’s heartbreaking answer. This is the big event of the season for YOUR opera company, a full-scale professional production with large orchestra, chorus, gorgeous costumes, beautiful set and world-class singers. English supertitles above the stage let you easily follow this moving story.
