Free
  • « Sober dance party
  • Holiday Lunch with the Lynchburg Symphony »

The American Civil War Museum–Appomattox is pleased to host the Appomattox Petersburg Preservation Society for their lecture.

Born and raised near Appomattox Court House, Virginia, Thomas A. L. Tibbs lived through a period of profound national change, shaped by war and personal hardship. From his service in the Confederate Army to his later military career on the American frontier, Tibbs’s life offers insight into the experiences of Civil War veterans and the challenges they faced in the decades following the conflict.

Join us as we explore the remarkable life of Thomas A. L. Tibbs, whose journey from Appomattox to the American West reveals the unexpected paths taken by Civil War veterans in the years following the conflict.

Carson Butler holds a degree in History with minors in Civil War–Era Studies and Public History from Gettysburg College. He has worked with the National Park Service at Appomattox Court House, Vicksburg, and Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania, and served as a Virginia State Park Ranger at High Bridge Trail State Park. He currently serves as Site Director of the American Civil War Museum–Appomattox.
