Amherst Java & Jazz Series presents Ken’s Rhythm Changers: European Gypsy Jazz

On August 30, 2025 from 6 pm to 8 pm, Amherst Glebe Arts Response, Inc. (AGAR) in collaboration with Second Stage Amherst present “Ken’s Rhythm Changers: European Gypsy Jazz” featuring Amelia LaVanchy, violin; Ken Matthews, clarinet; Lilianna Yates, upright bass; and Dr. Dwight Spencer, guitar. Ken, who recently returned from playing festivals in the South of France, will bring us older Romani works such as tunes of Django Reinhart, the first European jazz superstar, and also newer songs.

The show is August’s Amherst Java and Jazz at Second Stage Amherst, 194 Second Street, Amherst, VA 24521. Tickets are $15/adults, $8/students, free for VDH/VCA passport families with WIC cards. Assisted by Baines Books and Coffee. Baines serves a free coffee, soda or water with admission. Food and specialty non-alcoholic drinks may be purchased from Baines from 5:30 pm until end of intermission. AGAR jazz series curator is Ernest Deane.
