Pleasantly surprised by the beauty of this landmark! We happened to just pass it while driving through and made a point to park and explore it further- so glad we did!

This was a great place to visit. My wife and I stopped by here after a date night. It was very cold, however walking the many stairs kept us warm. I liked all the different war time displays. And we went at night when no one else was there and it wasn’t gated at all, it is open to the public 24/7.

Beautiful place! It's a great commemoration of Lynchburg's interesting history and still fully accessible to the public. It overlooks the city all the way down to the James River, so it's a great spot for a family photo or a date. Parking can be a little bit troublesome depending on when you go, but Lynchburg is fun to walk around, so you can find plenty of free street or garage parking a couple of blocks away.

Monument Terrace is a 132-step limestone staircase in downtown Lynchburg. It serves as a multi-tiered memorial honoring local citizens who died in American military conflicts. Each landing features plaques and sculptures spanning from the Civil War to the Global War on Terror. The iconic bronze Doughboy statue stands at the base, while the historic 1855 courthouse sits at the summit. Today, the site functions as a solemn memorial, a weekly veteran vigil location, and a popular fitness destination.
