Animation Festival: A Cerebration of Tex Avery

The Academy Center of the Arts is thrilled to announce the 2024 Animation Festival: A Celebration of Tex Avery on January 20, 2024 in the Historic Academy Theatre. Doors open at 11:00 AM with activities and film screenings begin at 12:00 PM.
Tex Avery (1908-1980) is best known for his work with Warners Bros. and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios, where he worked on characters such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Elmer Fudd, Droopy, Screwy Squirrel, The Wolf, Red Hot Riding Hood, and more.
The 2024 Animation Festival will begin at 11:00 AM with art activities, a photo booth, face painting, concessions, and a canned food drive.
Film screenings begin at 12:00 PM with shorts The Milky Way (1940), The Cat Concerto (1947) featuring Tom and Jerry, The Two Mousketeers (1952) featuring Tom and Jerry, Little Rural Riding Hood (1949) featuring Red and the Wolf, Screwball Squirrel (1944) featuring Screwy Squirrel, and Northwest Hounded Police (1946) featuring Droopy Dog.
After intermission, festivities will continue with Heritage High School’s Pioneer Theatre performing some scenes from Anastasia, followed by the full length film Anastasia (1997).
Animation Festival 2024 at The Academy Center of the Arts is sponsored by Framatome, Bo & Flo Hall, L3Harris Foundation, Virginia Commision for the Arts, and National Endowment for the Arts.
