April 22 is Earth Day, making it the perfect day to celebrate local businesses that take the necessary measures to ensure that they are doing their part to foster sustainable business practices and take care of the Earth.
Foraged & Cut
Natasha, the owner of Foraged & Cut, fell in love with flower design after her own DIY wedding. After working in a local flower shop for a few years, she went on to work at a flower farm, where she learned about the “field to vase” movement in wedding florals. Now, she has her own business and works hard to source her blooms from across America. Not only do these efforts support American farmers, but using flowers that are seasonally appropriate and grown in America eliminates the need to burn fuel to import them from overseas.
Spearman Artisanry
Everything that Spearman Artisanry sells either is made in the USA by artisans or meets fair trade standards. Fair trade goods support responsible companies, empower farmers, workers and protect the environment. All items are ethically sourced and fairly priced, meaning the maker gets their fair share of the profit.
Scene3
Have you ever wondered what happens to old, broken skateboards? Scene3 Designs happens. Over 100,000 decks are produced per month in the United States alone, and many of these break from regular use. Scene3 takes these broken decks and converts them into works of art, keeping them out of landfills and giving them new live. You can browse their selection at their store on Main Street or their Etsy page.
Grains of Sense
Unlike other coffee roasters, Grains of Sense (located in the Community Market) doesn’t outsource their coffee roasting. They roast all of their coffee beans in house, no matter the size of the order. All of their beans are sustainably grown, Fair Trade Certified, Rainforest Alliance Certified and Bird Friendly.
Urbavore
It’s no secret that plant-based food has a smaller impact on the Earth. Combine plant-based food and eco-friendly takeout materials and you have Urbavore. Their menu features delicious veggie burgers, all day breakfast and even vegan donuts! Whether you eat fully vegan or just like to dabble in plant-based eating, you’re sure to find something on the menu you’ll love.
