Whether you’ve lived in Lynchburg all your life or just recently moved to the city, we know you will enjoy discovering new adventures right here in your own backyard that you can share with family and friends. Here are some ways that you can rediscover all that Lynchburg has to offer.
Blackwater Creek Trails
Lynchburg has over 40 miles of urban trails for you to explore, with six different entrances all connecting to each other. You will find that there is not only beauty in the nature surrounding you but also in the history you will encounter. For instance, the Blackwater Creek Trail is built along an abandoned railway bed, which will then connect you to the Point of Honor trail that allows you to see the historic Point of Honor mansion. Take a relaxing walk, an energetic run, or grab your bike and start exploring all that the trails have to offer. You can look into bike rentals at Bikes Unlimited.
Poplar Forest
While Thomas Jefferson served as President of the United States, he built Poplar Forest, his own private retreat from the hustle and bustle of Monticello. Take a tour of the beautifully restored grounds and of the architecturally stunning octagonal house, itself. There are also special events that are hosted here, including archaeological digs, so be sure to check out their events calendar so you don’t miss out on all the fun!
Rise Up Climbing
Change up your fitness routine and check out Rise Up, Downtown Lynchburg’s indoor climbing gym. Here you can try scaling the walls that offer auto belays or take a shot at bouldering. They offer lessons if you need help getting started. Either way, it’s going to be a fun time and you might just pick up a new hobby!
Liberty Mountain Snowflex Centre
If you love snow sport activities, you’ll have a blast at Liberty’s Snowflex Centre. Here you can ski, snowboard, or tube down the mountain year-round! Even if you are trying out skiing or snowboarding for the first time, they offer lessons for all ages. Come with your own gear or rent it at their beautifully designed lodge that gives you that cozy day on the mountain vibe.
James River Adventures
Rent a canoe, kayak, stand up paddleboard, or a tube for a day on the James River from James River Adventures. Not only will it be a refreshing activity, you will also get to enjoy the natural beauty of the river, view the architecture of Downtown, and experience the river’s history. Be sure to keep an eye out for wildlife like herons and otters!
