These days, spending quality family time together is more about unplugging and reconnecting, all while trying not to break the bank. Luckily, in Lynchburg, there are great family fun night opportunities that can accomplish both.
Play and Learn at Amazement Square
Amazement Square is truly a Lynchburg treasure. A fully interactive, educational children’s museum, Amazement Square offers four floors of hands-on exhibits that are designed to make learning fun. Kids will have the chance to explore life on the farm, create a rainstorm over Lynchburg, float a boat down the James River, and even form a band and take the stage! Plus, the indoor play structure offers four floors of slides, ladders, tunnels and zip lines!
Movie Night at the Academy
Each month, the Academy Center of the Arts transforms into a fictional land. Past events have included Harry Potter movie marathons—where the entire Academy magically became Diagon Alley, The Three Broomsticks and even Hogwarts itself—and Black Panther, with a fully immersive Wakanda experience.
March’s movie night will require a quick spin in a Delorean as movie-goers go Back to the Future.
Get Some Air at Jump Lynchburg
Imagine the look on your kids’ faces when they walk into a room packed entirely with trampolines. Jump Lynchburg has over 10,000 square feet of connected trampolines, angled trampoline walls, a dodgeball court and a foam pit. This safe and fun environment is a great way to spend an afternoon.
Breathe Fresh Air at Riverside Park
The second oldest park in Lynchburg, Riverside Park, has over 45 acres of park space for you and your family to enjoy. If your kids are up for a hiking adventure, take them along one of the hiking trails that will provide incredible views of the James River. Tennis and basketball courts are also available for a more recreational afternoon, plus extensive playground equipment and even a sprayground (perfect for those hot Lynchburg summers!).
Plus, every month in the summer, Riverside Park opens up in the evenings for a free movie night!
Scavenger Hunt for Lynchburg Rocks
All around the United States, beautiful, brightly painted rocks are popping up in public places. What started as a way for communities to become more aware of their surroundings, while spreading a little cheer at the same time, has quickly grown into a nationwide movement dedicated to art and happiness.
Take your kids out for a walk or bike ride around town and see just how many rocks you can spot. If one of your kids finds one, give them the task of hiding it in a new spot!
