“Zeitgeist: The Art Scene of Teenage Basquiat” Exhibition Opening
September 14 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
The 107th Annual Exhibition of Contemporary Art, “Zeitgeist: The Art Scene of Teenage Basquiat” (Sept. 14-Dec.14, 2018) is a group exhibition focusing on the artists and scene around Jean-Michel Basquiat’s teen-aged, pre-fame years. The period covered in the exhibition tells the story of Jean-Michel’s early work, peers, and creative community in gritty, pre-AIDS, downtown New York—before the rise of the 80s art and real estate juggernaut.
Free. Cash bar (beer/wine) and refreshments provided.
“Zeigeist” was curated by Howl! Happening, Sara Driver, Carlo McCormick, and Mary-Ann Monforton. The 107th Annual Exhibition is generously supported by Mary Gray Shockey ’69.
