Sewing Class: Hooded Sweatshirt

Learn the basics of sewing while creating a gender-neutral hoodie.

Duration: This is a two-part class, meeting Saturday 11/4 from 9am-12pm and Sunday, 11/5 from 2-5pm

Cost $70 ($60 for members)

Class Size 5 to 8 participants

Ages 12+

During this introduction to sewing workshop, you will learn the basics of sewing while creating a sized-to-fit hooded sweatshirt. The following skills will be taught and practiced during this sewing workshop:

basic sewing machine operation (i.e. thread a needle and bobbin, etc.)
basic pattern following
differences in fabric, needles, and threads
basic machine sewing technique
seam allowances
how to sew straight lines, curved lines, and pivots
serging seams

Vector Space will provide the following at the Workshop,

Sewing pattern and instructions
Basic sewing tools and supplies (not to be taken home)
Scrap fabric for practice
A sewing machine to use during the workshop

What participants should bring to the workshop:

2 yards of Sweatshirt Fabric Fleece Jersey (suggested fabric source)
Any sewing questions you may have
Your sewing machine (optional)*

* If you bring your own sewing machine, please bring the instruction manual and be sure to have it serviced beforehand, as we will not be able to provide machine maintenance or troubleshooting during the workshop.
