We kick off in March with a bang as we Partner in Performance with the Academy Center of the Arts to present Kiss Me, Kate directed by Jim Ackley on the historic Academy theater stage!
Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate involves the production of a musical version of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew and the conflict on and off-stage between the show’s director, producer, and star, and his ex-wife leading lady. A secondary romance concerns the actress playing Bianca, and her gambler boyfriend, who runs afoul of some gangsters. After premiering in 1948, Kiss Me, Kate won the first Tony Award for Best Musical in 1949. One of the most popular American musicals ever produced, the show has had four Broadway revivals, each proving to be as popular and successful as the original.
