Pathway to Pride dedication ceremony and Juneteenth Celebration
June 19, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Old City Cemetery will dedicate its Pathway to Pride honoring local African American history in an afternoon of events on Sunday, June 19 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The program will start with an outdoor dedication event at the Pathway, a brick walkway located on the old Third Street roadbed in the heart of a section of African American graves culminating at the Pride family grave plot.
The free dedication event at the Cemetery will start at 3 p.m. and will be followed by an outdoor ticketed event ($5/person) which includes a 4 p.m. barbecue supper (served by Bistro Brothers BBQ) and a 5 p.m. jazz concert by Lynchburg native Isaac Williams and his IJW Trio under a tent in the Cemetery’s Earley Memorial Shrub Garden, across from the Cemetery Chapel. Several anonymous sponsors are underwriting a portion of the concert and barbecue.
