In Italian, “Suor Angelica” (pronounced SWOAR ANGELICA) means Sister Angelica, a young nun in 17th century Italy. To the shame of her ancient and noble family, Angelica bore a child out of wedlock seven years ago. She was forced to give up the child immediately after his birth and was forbidden to ever see him again. Banished to a convent by her unforgiving family, she is denied all contact with the outside world and yearns for news of her child. She prays constantly for forgiveness and seeks atonement through service to the other nuns. Healing with plants and herbal medicines is her special gift, but this work carries both comfort and risk. When a visitor from home finally appears, Angelica receives news that drives her to an act of violent desperation…
