LYNCHBURG’S PREMIER FINE ART FESTIVAL
The Lynchburg Art Club will host the 46th Annual Lynchburg Art Festival Saturday, September 15, 10am to 4pm. Sponsored in part by Centra Health
More than 140 artists from across Virginia and surrounding states will display and sell their art under the historic southern red oak at E.C. Glass High School. A wide range of mediums will be on display including watercolor, oil, pastel, painting, encaustic, sculpture, drawing, acrylic, mixed media, and photography.
Artists will be vying for over $5,000 in prize money awarded by this year’s Judge, Diego Sanchez, from Richmond, Virginia. Mr. Sanchez is a native of Bogota, Columbia. He holds an MFA in painting and printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University. A student exhibit will highlight artistic talent from area high schools with cash awards. Rosalie Sunderland Day White, who will be the student judge this year, received her B.A. and M.Ed. from Lynchburg College, in Virginia.
Proceeds from the Lynchburg Art Festival provide for the continuation of the Shirley D. Hobbs Scholarship Fund established in 2000. Each year a high school senior interested in a degree in art is selected from area schools to receive a four-year college scholarship totaling $4,000.
Food and drinks will be available at the festival this year provided by local food trucks and also the Noon Day Rotary Club. The Noon Day Rotary Club has been part of the art festival tradition for many years. Rain date is Sunday, September 16, 10am to 4pm.
