The Academy is excited to present the Lorraine Hansberry classic, A Raisin in the Sun. This community theatre production will be directed by former EC Glass theatre director, Jim Ackley.
Lorraine Hansberry’s landmark drama was one of the first on Broadway to examine African-American life on the cusp of the civil rights era. Walter Younger and his mother, Lena, both yearn to move their family out of Chicago’s Southside. When Lena’s late husband’s insurance check arrives, Lena hopes to use the money to buy a house in the predominantly white neighborhood of Clybourne Park – while Walter hopes to invest the money in his own business, a liquor store.
