Take the Train In

Explore Lynchburg and the surrounding reason in the best possible way—by Amtrak. In just a 3 hour and 30 minute trip, you can travel from Washington, D.C.’s, train hub and be connected with abundant beauty.

The Amtrak will drop you off right on Kemper Street, which will centrally locate you to downtown Lynchburg. From Kemper Street, you can take the bus, call a cab or get a Lyft or Uber to go straight to the destination of your choice.

If you’re only in Lynchburg for a full day, make the most of your time with this itinerary:

Night

8:30 p.m. - Arrive in Lynchburg via the Amtrak on Kemper Street.

8:45 p.m. - Check into your hotel.

9:15 p.m. - Grab a late dinner nearby at Rivermont Pizza.

Day

10:00 a.m. - Start your day with a light, vegan breakfast from Urbavore (get the Biscuits and Gravy!)

11:15 a.m. - Walk one street down to the Lynchburg Museum to learn more about the City and region’s history.

12:15 p.m. - More coffee is in order, head to the White Hart for some local coffee to go.

12:30 p.m. - Take your coffee one street down and explore the Bluffwalk and the nearby Blackwater Creek Trail. If you’re feeling adventurous and packed the right footwear, venture off the paved path toward the James River. You can even rent a bike at Bikes Unlimited.

2:30 p.m. - Walk back toward the City and treat yourself to a little shopping.

5:00 p.m. - Catch The Hopper, a free bus that runs throughout downtown Lynchburg and head up to 5th Street.

5:30 p.m. - Grab an early dinner at Fifth and Federal (get the Bel Air Tater Tots and a whiskey flight!)

7:30 p.m. - Check out the events calendar for a list of concerts, performances and activities taking place while you're in town.

10:00 p.m. - Head back to your hotel and get ready for your 7:30 a.m. train ride back home.
